Gunn was a student at the British American Drama Academy for a semester in fall 1988. When she moved to Laurel Canyon Los Angeles she lived in a home with Pamela Adlon. Gunn was best known as Skyler in AMC's Breaking drama. The actress was nominated in 2013 and 2014 to win the Primetime Emmy Award as Outstanding supporting actress on a drama show for her performance. She wrote an opinion piece in the month of August 2013 for The New York Times, in which she discussed the public's disapproval of her portrayal.
