Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a public speaker. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency which provides commentary and videos on depictions of women's roles in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes associated with women in pop culture, she is a vocal advocate for issues relating to the targeted harassment of women as well as other classes of individuals in the internet world. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in the field of political and social thought from York University. As a public speaker, she's well-known and has been a speaker at TEDxWomenXOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years she was intrigued by issues of gender identity as well as feminist ideas. When she was still in school, in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency Website. The ambitious young woman was slammed by the Internet for starting a web series on gender in videogames. But the harassment did not hinder her. The experience only strengthened her as a journalist who is feminist. Sarkeesian has been awarded many awards for her contributions to feminism.
