Before she became an actor, she began modeling as a child model. She was nominated for the Theatre World Award for "one of most promising personalities 1956-1957" for her role in The Potting Shed. Lynley began her career in film in the year 1958 by appearing in the Disney film The Light in the Forest. The film was followed by Holiday for Lovers (1959) and Blue Denim (1959). In 1959, she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award as Most Promising Female Newcomer - Female. She was nominated to the Golden Globe Award again for the most promising youngcomer of female a year later for Blue Denim.
